More Joule: UI changes
Briefly, since I'm busy:

Since it was a fairly trivial fix, I implemented a two-stage system in Joule last night, as suggested here: there's just a username box on the front page, and it takes you to an intermediate page where you pick the service.  Most people bookmark their chart page and don't use the controls, and I was aiming to make the controls simpler even at the possible cost of a few extra seconds for a first-time user.  I'm asking for feedback for or against this idea.  I've only heard one reply so far and they didn't like it.  What do you think?

I don't like it, because it assumes that the person wants to track one and only one account: not, say, a LiveJournal and a twitter account, or two accounts on the same service.

Did the old system not also imply that? (You could always open two report pages with the old system, but then again you also can with the new system.)

I've been thinking of making a system where you could view (say) an LJ and a Twitter account on the same report, so maybe adding that in would make things better?

If I recall correctly (there's no easy way for me to check from here), the old system's interface for switching from information about this account to information about [info]julian_tiger or the twitter account "vicki" was more visible. But that may say more about how my brain sorts information than about how the system works.

I prefer the dropdown - I can't see the need to put an extra stage in the way.
But I am apparently unusual for always going in from the front page (but if people don't, they won't see whether it's one or two stages anyway?)
