The Fool
I've had an affinity for the card called The Fool for a long time. This Christmas, Fin commissioned Joanna Barnum to paint me as the archetype, along with my late dog Jaspie:

Marnanel as The Fool, (c) Joanna Barnum 2008

© Joanna Barnum 2008. Isn't it wonderful? You should all go and look at the gallery of her other work.

That's absolutely beautiful! Her gallery is in another tab and I'll visit it later. Nothing relaxes me like looking at visual art.

That is awesome. Also, for some reason I'm reminded of Destruction from Sandman.

Has a dog, lives on the edge of a cliff, laughs immoderately loudly...

Me too... it's lovely, and it's a good likeness. I suspect I'm just stupid (or eeeegnorant of tarot, one or the other) though, because I'm not seeing the Fool connection.

the fool as commonly depicted is a man standing on the edge of a cliff, with his earthly belongings in a pouch, and a dog at his heels, daydreaming (unaware of the edge of the cliff), and holding a flower (traditionally a white rose).

had the same thought, and came here to comment, only to see you beat me... and just while the page was loading I thought "I wonder if Neil G. did that on purpose" and then I read [info]marnanel's comment below pointing out all the common things they have.

Oh, that is amazing. A very true likeness, and so evocative as well - it makes me happy just looking at it!

I hate people with skill like that in watercolors.

I knew I recognised it, and I should have guessed from the filename (Fin sent it me last week) but somehow didn't. I feel rather silly now >.<

(Also, one of my first impressions of you was how like The Fool you were, but I didn't think you'd appreciate that, so I never said anything. Silly again...)

The painting is so good. I wish I had a talent for painting like that.
